Tor and Kathy Hansen have been involved with dogs, in various capacities, for
over 35 years. They have successfully competed in Hunt Tests, Obedience,
Working Certificates and Tracking. The idea to build the K9 Fit Fur Fun pool was conceived after their beloved dog Joker, broke his front leg. Tor and
Kathy did extensive research to identify the best methods to rehabilitate Joker
and discovered that aqua therapy in a pool was the best option.
They located a pool and started Joker on his way to recovery. After begining
pool rehabilitation, the improvement in Joker's leg was amazing. He went from
not putting his foot down, to a mild limp in only two weeks. The Hansens were
so impressed with the results, they decided to build their own pool for
everyone’s doggy friends.
The K9 Fit Fur Fun pool provides a facility for other dog lovers to promote good health and
happiness in their dogs, in a clean and safe environment.
The pool is located on the Hansen's private property in beautiful North Saanich,
British Columbia. Clients have access to client parking and an outdoor activity
area.
The indoor, heated pool is 14' wide x 36' long and 4' deep. It is heated to 28
degrees celsius which is the recommended temerature for dogs because it
prevents exhaustion in the pool. The salt water is controlled by a filtering
system that not only cleans the water but creates the salt and small amount of
chlorine you need to combat bacteria.
The facilities include a change room for clients that wish to get in the pool to
assist the trainer and a shower area. Clients can also sit poolside and watch
the fun and activities.
K9 Fit Fur Fun offers Open Swims on a swim by swim by swim basis for any dog for a maximum of 30 minutes
depending on your breed of dog. (Some dogs are bred for the water, while others
simply enjoy it). We have Introduction to Water which teaches your dog to relax and that water is fun. Pre-Swim is for dogs who are preparing for surgery and need to build up muscle mass
before the operation. Post-Swim (requires a vet check) is designed
for dogs who have undergone surgery and need to build up the muscle mass that
they've lost. Weight-Loss Program is designed to use the pool to help your dog loose the excess weight. Pre-Swim,
Post Swim and the Weight Loss Program are all sold in blocks of time, depending
on the needs and requirements of your dog.
We also offer a Pool Party package or you can come in and speak with our manager about the renting of the
pool itself.
